Summary

Product Identification

Memtrex FE (MFE) filters feature absolute-rated Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membranes, offering broad chemical compatibility and minimal extractables. The inherently hydrophobic PTFE membrane is suited for filtration of compressed air and other process gases. MFE filters are constructed in a clean room environment using thermal welding and are individually integrity tested.

Available absolute pore size micron ratings include:

  • 0.1 µm
  • 0.2 µm
  • 0.45 µm
  • 1.0 µm

Typical applications include filtration of:

  • Aggressive solvents such as alcohols, esters, and ketones
  • Corrosive acids and bases
  • Vents/exhausts for autoclaves, fermenters, and storage tanks
  • High purity chemicals and water used in electronics manufacturing

Materials of Construction

  • Filtration Media: Hydrophobic PTFE
  • Support Layers: Polypropylene Microfiber
  • Core and Cage: Polypropylene
  • End Caps and Adapters: Polypropylene

Dimensions

  • Nominal O.D.: 2.75” (70 mm)
  • Nominal I.D.: 1.25” (31 mm)
  • Effective Filtration Area: 5.9 ft² (0.55 m²)

Operating Limits

  • Max. Forward Differential Pressure: 60 psi (4.1 bar) at 70ºF (21ºC)
  • Max. Reverse Differential Pressure: 30 psi (2.1 bar) at 70ºF (21ºC)
  • Max. Operating Temperature: 180ºF (82ºC) at 10 psid (0.7 bar) in water

Integrity Testing (Water intrusion per 10" filter)

  • 0.1 µm Pore Size Rating: ≤ 5 cc/min at 40 psig (2.76 bar)
  • 0.2 µm Pore Size Rating: ≤ 5 cc/min at 30 psig (2.07 bar)
  • 0.45 µm Pore Size Rating: ≤ 5 cc/min at 20 psig (1.38 bar)
  • 1.0 µm Pore Size Rating: ≤ 5 cc/min at 15 psig (1.03 bar)

Flow Performance

Flow performance data in clean air (Table 5) and clean water (Table 6) is referenced but not provided in this extract. See the official PDF for exact tabulated values.

Additional Information

Memtrex FE filters may be autoclaved or in situ steam sterilized up to 257°F (125°C) for 30-minute cycles, with a maximum accumulated exposure of 10 hours. Filters undergoing steam sterilization require stainless steel insert supported o-ring adaptors. Alternatively, filters can be sanitized with compatible chemical agents.

The material in Memtrex FE pleated filters meets U.S. FDA requirements for food contact under applicable regulations in 21 CFR and meets the test criteria for USP class VI-121°C Plastics. Aqueous extracts from Memtrex FE filters contain less than 0.25 EU/ml and typically exhibit low levels of non-volatile residues.
