The filter bags are designed to minimize substance migration into the fluid, addressing concerns for consumable products. EC limits on migration can be up to 50 times more restrictive than FDA limits for some materials. To satisfy EC requirements, some CLEARGAF™ filters require a Minimum Processing Quantity (MPQ), where a minimum amount of fluid (<600 kg) must pass through the bags to dilute migration.

Compliance and Certifications

All CLEARGAF™ filter bags are made from materials compliant with:

• US FDA (21CFR177): Materials for food contact applications. FDA limits on migration are proportional to weight.
• EC (Directive 2002/72/EC): European regulations for plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs. EC limits are based on area and must be demonstrated in tests on finished articles.

Both regulations require that only plastics approved for food use may be used in direct contact, maintain positive lists of approved materials, prohibit the use of other materials, and limit allowed migration.
